Writing a book is hard but editing one shouldn’t have to be.
I love stories, and I want to help make sure they’re told in the best way possible. I’m an editor at Unsolicited Press, but I also provide two editing services: copy editing and proofreading.
Copy editing is a much deeper edit. Line by line, I’ll go through your manuscript looking for grammar, punctuation, inconsistencies, fact-checking, tenses, and more. It’s that rich edit that takes your writing to the next level.
Proofreading, on the other hand, is that last detailed layer of icing on the cake before the story is out there, published to the world. I’ll make minor edits and double check grammar, consistencies, and more. This stage is known as the “last line of defense” or the “last checkpoint” before the book is published.
What Do I Edit?
I edit fiction and poetry the most. I also edit a little non-fiction on the side. Here’s a list of my favorite genres:
- Creative Non-fiction
- Fiction (YA, Fantasy, Sci-fi, Adventure, Mystery)
What do I not edit?
How It Works
Before anything, I edit two pages for free if you are a new client. I want to give you a sense of my editing style before you sign up for anything. If you like my editing, great! We’ll sign a contract that states the final cost and the exact date that I must get the edits back to you.
A 50% downpayment is asked up front, so you don’t have to worry about getting the money together beforehand. (If you need an installment plan, we can discuss options.)
Afterwards, I’ll make sure that you like the edits. If you have any questions about any of my edits, let me know. I change everything through Track Changes on Word, so you’ll see everything that I do.
What Do I Charge?
For both copy editing and proofreading, I charge 2 cents per word. For example, a 5,000 word manuscript is $100.
