Thank you, Ronnell, for giving me a copy of the book in exchange for a fair review!
It Is What It Is, Because It Never Was is a poetry book that explores what it means to be human through a biblical lens. It speaks to calling and bringing the world to peace, which feels relevant considering the world at the moment.
The medium length poems (about a page long) were the strongest. Those usually shined and spoke out to me the most with a good mixture of emotion. The messages throughout all the poems were nice and peaceful. Some felt more like a call to action as well. They feel like they were meant to be said out loud more than read.
My main critique was that the poems started to repeat themselves and got a bit too preachy in some of them. While they had good points, it just seemed on a loop, and that would drag my interest a bit.
Overall, this is a good poetry book if you’re looking for some hope and desire for a better world.
