One of my poems got published with Sheila-Na-Gig, and it’s up! I am one of eight poets chosen for the Under Age 30 section. You can check it out here.
I had the first stanza stuck in my head while wandering around a Target back in 2020. I’m not sure where the words came from. All I know is that they kept repeating, so I wrote them down. The rest of the poem flowed out from there.
The title—Mad World—is a reference to the song “Mad World.” I grew up with the Gary Jules and Michael Andrews cover, so that was the version I thought of when naming the poem.
I hope y’all enjoy it.
congratulations!

And might be. It’s the one that goes “All around me are familiar faces / Worn out places, worn out faces / Bright and early for their daily races / Going nowhere, going nowhere.”
