There’s something eerie about silence
We fill up every second with noise
Noise of social media
Noise of to-do lists
Noise of failures
But when we take a moment for nothing
There’s something almost too empty about it
I almost want the noise back
But at the same time —
The silence keeps me sane

I often feel this eerie silence when the electricity goes. While I too revel in the quiet, it is startling to think how much the noise simply became a part of me.

I’ve felt that before. At least the electricity doesn’t go out often.

I dislike noise, but when the first lockdown happened the silence felt so sad and wrong…

I felt that too. It was so weird and unreal at first.

I notice that I wrote first lockdown. I wonder if I’m used to the weirdness of the silence now, or if it hasn’t been as silent.

Without silence I might be lost. I derive my energy from it. My thoughts to write down originate from there. My silence is very talkative. Has all the answers to my chaotic questions.
Thanks for sharing such a beautiful piece.

What a beautiful write! Words of wisdom said with so much beauty.
Loved the use of the word “sane”….There is so much sanity packed in a moment of silence!

Finding peace with the silence is one of the best things we can do for our sanity, I think!

That’s true! Out of everyone in this world, we deal with ourselves the most. Being at peace with just ourselves in silence can be powerful.
