Have you ever thought about doing NaNoWriMo during another month? Or even choosing your own month for it?
(NaNoWriMo, if you don’t know, stands for National Novel Writing Month. It’s when writers get together to write a novel — or 50,000 words — in November.)
NaNoWriMo is at the start of a busy season itself. Especially when I worked retail, NaNoWriMo would pick up when my work hours picked up. I’d work with frantic customers who are trying to get Christmas gifts together to rush back home to write about 2,000 words.
I know there are NaNoWriMo summer camps, but summers are also usually a busy time of the year. Most people are doing summer school or playing sports outside. Summer trips can get in the middle of it all.
But what if NaNoWriMo was in the winter? January and February are always slower months. (April is too.) Not much happens in those months as much as in the summer or the end of the year. Would that be an easier time to get a novel out and reach higher goals?
What if we all got to choose our own NaNoWriMo month?

February sounds like a good time for it to me. 🙂
