NaNoWriMo update #1

This year, I’m giving live updates on my track through NaNoWriMo.

Usually, I make every post a month in advance, but these posts will get updated the day before posting. Hopefully, all goes well.

The first full week of NaNoWriMo has passed! I didn’t think I’d write as many words as I did, but somehow I did it. I have 16,025 words so far. That’s big for me. I usually have about 11,800 by the seventh day (not counting today because it’s so early).

This year, I decided to rewrite my entire first novel again. I submitted it to a handful of agents to no success. So, I looked back at all my novels and noticed how I tend to default to writing in first person. But I had changed my first novel to third person since my beta readers said it would be better in third.

I mean, my novel did improve. Don’t get me wrong. But I don’t think it was because the POV changed. I might’ve been, because I had become a better writer over the years.

So, to see if it’ll get better, I’m rewriting my novel. So far, I’ve added more details in. Not sure if it’s for the better or worse, but I guess time will tell.

Words: 16,025
Percentage through: 32.05%

“A writer is a writer not because she writers well and easily, because she has amazing talent, or because everything she does is golden. A writer is a writer because, even when there is no hope, even when nothing you do shows any sign of promise, you keep writing anyway.”

  1. Hi Robin. Your article was encouraging. I’ve been hearing of NaNo for long but I’ve never taken any interest in it. You see, I’m a lazy writer, and seating down to write consistently is my biggest challenge. Anyway, kudos for the 16 thousand words you have so far…

    1. Thank you so much! I’m glad you found it encouraging!

Most months I feel like a lazy writer too. I get so busy that it’s hard to sit down and write. That’s the main reason I do NaNoWriMo. It kicks me into gear.
