As a blogger, or even as a writer, do you take a step back and reevaluate past blog series?
Recently, I went through every book review that I’ve made on this site. One, I didn’t think there’d be so many. (Sooo many tabs.) Two, I fixed some formatting mistakes.
Three, I also rearranged my review rankings.
It wasn’t that I didn’t have a good system before. But I have developed more since I started, so I wanted to make sure I was raking them in consideration with each other well.
I ended up changing almost every single ranking. Some didn’t change much; a few books went from a 7.5 to a 7.9. But some dropped a whole letter grade. It was interesting to see them all in a line together and notice how I was scoring them.
I rearranged them based on this:
- 9 – 9.9 — loved
- 8 – 8.9 — pretty good
- 7 – 7.9 — good
- 6 – 6.9 — good eh
- 5 – 5.9 — eh
- 4 and below — I don’t really rate those often. Those books are hard to finish.
As I did the whole process, I wondered if it was something common between other bloggers. Do you go back and reevaluate your book reviews or any other type of blog series? Have you gone back to make sure the formatting was all the same? If so, how often do you think you should?

My book is an anthology of content from the blog, so I’ve tweaked the words for the book, of course…but rarely gone back to edit old posts. If I re-post stuff later on, I sometimes update material to enhance it, though.

That makes sense.
Going back through years of work can be exhausting and takes a lot of time.

I actually would if this was my business…but I’m not a commercial blogger (like so many people seem to be these days), so there’s not much incentive.

I can see that.
I think I only go through some of it now, because I like structure and am a bit of a perfectionist. I don’t think I could do it as much as a commercial blogger though.

I actually do need to go back to my old posts! When I switched themes some of my formatting got wonky and I managed to fix some of it when I came across it but I haven’t had time to go back in depth and check everything.

Time is a huge factor. It can be hard to go back through everything, especially when there has been years of posts.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who has gone back through some old posts though!

I probably should look back at mine. Right now I’m trying to focus on writing more interesting reviews going forward. I have changed the format and focus a bit since getting my library science degree. That changed some of my views.
